Image description

The State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry. Perhaps the most picturesque members of the Household Cavalry are the Trumpeters arrayed in their colourful uniforms of scarlet and gold. For both regiments of the Household Cavalry, the Life Guards and the Royal Horse Guards (The Blues), the Trumpeters' uniforms are identical, and embody the Royal Cipher. It is the custom for the Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry to perform the traditional duty of sounding the fanfares at the Proclamation of the King's Accession. Another old and traditional custom is the presence of Household Cavalry Trumpeters at the Lord Mayor's Show. We show dismounted Trumpeters sounding a fanfare upon the arrival of the Lord Mayor at the Guildhall. Illustration for one of a set of 50 cigarette cards on the subject of Interesting Customs and Traditions of the Navy, Army and Airforce issued by Lambert & Butler in 1939.
