Speedway, English Test Team 1936. Riders, left to right: G Newton (New Cross), W Kitchen (Belle Vue), Jack Parker (Harringay), Eric Langton (Captain) (Belle Vue), Joe Abbot (Belle Vue), H R Less (Res Wembley), Frank Charles (Wembley), Gus Kuhn (Res Wimbledon). The first official speedway test match between England and Australia was held at Wembley on 28 May 1936. The English Team proved too good for Australia and won 65 points to 43. The hero of the match was George Newton who was making his first appearance for England. He scored 16 points and finished top scorer on either side.
