Image description

Thomas Francis of Savoy Carignano (1596-1656) was provisional governor of Flanders between the death of Isabella Clara Eugenia in 1633 and the arrival of Cardinal Ferdinand of Habsburg in November 1634. In his equestrian portrait, paid in January 1635, he is depicted as commander of the Spanish troops, rather than as governor.
