The 18th and 80th Regiments of Foot storming the Shwe-Dagon Pagoda, Rangoon, 12 April 1852. Watercolour by John North Crealock, 1852. This action took place during the 2nd Burma War (1852-1853) when East India Company and British Army troops captured Rangoon. The Shwe-Dagon Pagoda is the most important Buddhist pagoda in Burma. The troops depicted were from the 18th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot and 80th Regiment of Foot (Staffordshire Volunteers).
