POHJANMAAN MUSEO

Pohjanmaan Museo, or the Ostrobothnian Museum, is found in Vaasa, Finland. Vaasa, the regional capital of Obstrothnia, has been known by various different names throughout its existence as its position on the Finnish-Swedish border has seen it vacillate between the two countries. Established at the end of the 19th century, a result of the national awakening of that time, the museum was founded by the Ostrobothnian historical museum association to bring about an interest towards the cultivation of patriotism and patriotic remembrance in all social classes. The museum’s art collection of Finnish art contains works both old, modern and contemporary and particularly remarkable is the Realist masterpiece, ‘The Bakery’ by Helene Schjerfbeck.
