The "Solar Boat" bronze statue by Czech-born sculptor Karel seen in the garden of Rambouillet's castle near Paris, November 8. Former President Francois Mitterrand commissionned the work which represents a naked man steering a gondola with two wheels and a sphere. Instead of being set up in the Elysees garden, President Mitterrand offered the work to Rambouillet. Some visitors to the gardens, where the statue has been displayed since October 1993, have noted a strong resemblance between the statue and former president Mitterrand, which the sculptor has always denied.
