Image description

Support Company pennant flown from the Commander British Forces (COMBRITFOR) Foxhound vehicle in Kabul, Afghanistan, April to December 2016. The Foxhound is a protected patrol vehicle specifically designed for the environment troops face in Afghanistan. Its v-shaped hull provides protection from Improvised Explosive Devices IEDs. It is capable of surviving a minestrike and driving away from an ambush on only three wheels. The engine can be removed and replaced in 30 minutes. The Foxhound was tested in the Helmand desert and deployed on operations from 2012 onwards. This pennant was collected by soldiers from Support Company 2 Royal Gurkha Rifles during Operation TORAL 3. Op TORAL is the codename for Britain’s presence in Afghanistan from 2015 onwards, as part of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission. It focuses on supporting the Afghan Government, training Afghan National Army and Police personnel. 2 Royal Gurkha Rifles deployed to Kabul in early 2016 to protect UK and NATO mentors working in government ministries and at the Afghan National Officers’ Academy.
