Image description

Multi Terrain Pattern shirt and trousers worn by Major Steve Little, Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) during Operation BACKWELL, in Somalia, May 2016 to November 2016. Operation BACKWELL is the United Kingdom’s advisory mission to the African Union Mission to Somalia, aimed at restoring security and stability. The combat shirt bears a Major’s rank slide and also features the African Union Tactical Recognition Flash. The shirt also features a name badge over the left pocket. This was an in-theatre modification, as the African Union troops that the British were working with were accustomed to seeing American service personnel, whose uniforms carry their names. The British contingent decided to adopt this measure to help make them more effective in their training mission.
