Image description

Multi-terrain pattern (MTP) tier two pelvic protection armour, 2010 circa. This armour, in service since December 2010, has been issued to soldiers deployed on operations in Afghanistan (2001- ). The tier two detachable pelvic body armour is the second layer of a three-tiered pelvic protection system designed to help mitigate the effects of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts. It is issued to all troops operating outside the wire and can be rolled up, clipped to a belt and then pulled through the legs to form a protective pouch. The pelvic protection system aims to balance protection with the necessary comfort and manoeuvrability for troops to undertake operations, enabling them to wear one or more of the protective layers depending on the task.
