T'Serclaes rousing the Citizens of Brussels to expel the Flemings from the City. A conflict in 1356 between Wenceslas, Duke of Brabant, and Louis de Maele, Count of Flanders, resulted in a victory for the latter. On the night of 24 October 1356, Everard T'Serclaes, with some followers, scaled the city walls and, at the Town Hall, slew the Guard. Then, with the rousing cry of "Brabant of the Grand Duke," he assembled the citizens, who speedily put the Flemish garrison to death, and this act led to the expulsion of the enemy from Brabant.
