Image description

William Artaud (London 1763 - London 1823). Oil painting on canvas, Maria Lane, Mrs John Hammond Lucy (1758-1844), by William Artaud (London 1763 - London 1823). A half-length seated portrait of the daughter of John Lane of Bentley Hall, Staffordshire, wearing a black dress, white lace collar and black ribon round her hair; a flower held in her right hand. The flower is cut by the edge of the picture and the composition is crapmped and therefore may have been reduced form a rectangular canvas. She married the Reverend John Hammond Lucy in 1788. (companion to P/38) Charlecote Park, Warwickshire (Accredited Museum)
