Historical scene. In the left foreground, corpses are trampled underfoot by a revolutionary holding a knife in his right hand and a severed head in his left. In the center, a kneeling M. de Pelleport is threatened by several revolutionaries; on the right, M. de Losme is challenged by other revolutionaries, including a woman. Above the scene, a cloud with allegorical figures: Minerva (France?) and Liberty brandishing a sword topped by a Phrygian cap and a torch; behind these two figures, several putti wearing various attributes. Inscription - On the reverse of the painting, on a torn label: "Prise de la Bastille / mort du gouverneur Delaunay / massacré par le peuple / [t]ableau esquissé par [...] / [...] à l'époque [...] / [Pru]d'hon avait [...] / [neuf autres lignes très lacunaires]".
