Cabaret scene, after Adriaen van Ostade (Main title)
Anonymous; Van Ostade, Adriaen
In a cabaret, four men and a woman have gathered around a table to drink and smoke. Signed apocryphally, "Isaack Ostade", the painting seems to have been made after several works by Adriaen van Ostade. The cabaret is reminiscent of paintings such as "L'atelier du peintre" (Dresden, Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister) and "Intérieur d'une salle de classe" (Private Collection), in which the light comes from a large round-arched window on the left, while the group of three rightmost figures and the dog is an exact reproduction of an engraving by the artist illustrating "Le goûter", of which there are numerous copies worldwide (including, potentially, 10 in the Petit Palais collection).
Apocryphal signature - Signature lower right: "Isaack Ostade".
