Chartreuse du Liget is a former Carthusian monastery, located in Chemillé-sur-Indrois, in the French department of Indre-et-Loire in the Center-Val de Loire region.
In a deep valley and in the heart of the forest, the Chartreuse appears, dazzlingly white. It was founded in 1178 by order of Henry II Plantagenet, King of England in expiation for the murder of Thomas Becket. Later, two other kings confirmed this foundation, John, king of England, in 1199, then Saint-Louis, king of France, in 1234. Many were the kings who subsequently stayed here and enriched the convent: Charles VI, Charles VII, Louis XI, to name but a few.
