'Put Him In to Get Him Out', Election Poster for Arthur Griffith, 1918 (printed paper)

In the Irish general election of December 1918 Arthur Griffith (1872-1922) was standing for the seat of Cavan East; He had been arrested in May that year along with other leaders of the Sinn Fein party for suspected involvement in a treasonable plot with the Germans; Griffith was elected and was released from jail although subsequently refused to take his seat in the British Parliament; The poster is not in fact an image of Griffith, rather it was a generic poster that was used for several of the imprisoned Sinn Fein candidates in several constituencies;
