Saint Charalampe and scenes from his life (Main title) Greece, School of (Greek School) The representation of Saint Charalampe is surrounded by eight scenes from his life. In the center of the icon, the holy martyr is seated on a throne, a book in his hand with the inscription: "He will be delivered by his parents to death and a hair from his head...". Above, Christ appears surrounded by angels and presents him with a phylactery: "Enter servant to the joy of your Master". Above left, the saint's martyrdom begins with a dazzling action performed in front of the city prefect. On the right, the saint is led like a horse through the city streets. In the middle, on the left, the Prefect's hands, clad in metal gloves to better plough Charalampe's flesh, detach themselves from him and remain frozen in the victim's wounds. On the right, the saint is burned with candles and below, his teeth are crushed with stones. At bottom left, the saint's back is pierced with nails and, impaled, he is thrown into a fire. Inscription - Inscriptions in Greek, in each vignette: In the center: "o aghios hieromartys Charalampos" ("Saint and venerable martyr Charalampe").
