Verona, 1959. The Palazzo degli Scaligeri, on the left the marble monument of Ugo Zannoni dedicated to Dante on the occasion of the 600 years since his birth. In Verona the poet, with other Ghibelline refugees, found refuge at Can Grande della Scala. The iconography is true to the famous description of Boccaccio, which dashed “the long face, and the aquiline nose, and the eyes rather large that small, the jaws large, and from the lip below was the one above advanced (...) and always in the melancholy and thoughtful face”
