Image description

Called Sir Hugh Myddelton, 1st Bt (1560-1631), Dutch (Frisian?) school, early 17th century. A head and upper shoulders portrait, of an elderly man, turned slightly to right, supposedly the brother of Sir Thomas Myddelton I. He is gazing at spectator, with grey wispy hair, moustache and beard and wearing a large elaborate lace ruff. Formerly known as an 'unknown man by Ravesteyn', Christie's catalogue, Saturday June 22, Monday June 24 and Tuesday June 25 1895, lot no. 362.
