A young Vietnamese boy sits on a gravestone for My Lai massacre victims while others look on during the 30th anniversary commemoration of the infamous Vietnam War massacre at My Lai, in central Vietnam March 16. About 500 Vietnamese, mostly women, children and the elderly, were indiscriminately killed by U.S. troops at the South Vietnamese hamlet on this day in 1968. American helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson and door gunner Lawrence Colburn helped save defenceless civilians by landing their helicopter in the line of fire between rampaging American troops and fleeing villagers in the South Vietnamese hamlet of My Lai 30 years ago today.
