Roger Mortimer (1287-1330) and his wife Isabella led a successful invasion of England in 1326 and governed until Edward III (1312-77) overthrew him with the support of the barons in 1330 after Mortimer executed the Duke of Kent, the late king's half brother, for treason. They arrested and executed Mortimer and imprisoned Isabella.
