1) 11 February - The Super Bowl LVIII is celebrated in Las Vegas 

Celebrated annually since 1967, the Super Bowl signifies the end of the NFL football season. This year’s Super Bowl was watched by over 123 million people across the world - greater than the audience for the 1969 moon landing.

2) April - The Galerie Perrotin in Paris, announced the representation of the Estate of Lynn Chadwick (1914-2003)

A series of shows are planned to celebrate Lynn Chadwick, a pioneer in sculptural art. This exhibition toured the art fair Art Basel, and was showcased in Freize, London. Further exhibitions are planned for Perrotin in New York and Shanghai in 2025.

3) 7 May - The Eurovision Song Contest was held in Malmo, Sweden

Initially held in 1956, Eurovision is the longest running televised international music competition. The winner of 2024, The Code Nemo, became the first non-binary winner of the contest.

4) 22 May - The 100th anniversary of Charles Aznavour’s birth

Charles Aznavour was a French singer, well known for his remarkable voice and legacy in French music. Having recorded over 1,200 songs, Aznavour has sold over 180 million records worldwide.

5) 30 May - Vermont introduces legislation holding fossil fuel companies financially responsible for their environmental damage

Vermont has become the first state in America to charge large companies for their environmental impact, aiming to reduce commercial pollution.

6) 2 June - Mexican Federal Election

Mexico's federal election, which occurs every six years, saw a large turnout from the electorate. For the first time in Mexico's history, the majority of presidential candidates in a national election were women.

7) 6 June - The 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings 

During World War II, Allied forces stormed the Normandy coast, signifying a crucial turning point in the war. Hundreds of soldiers participated, demonstrating extraordinary bravery.

8) 29 June - The 2024 Tour de France began with a Grand Départ from Italy

Initially organised in 1903, this year's Tour de France began in Florence, Italy, finishing in Nice, France. This plays homage to its global audience and competitors.

9) 13 July - The 70th anniversary of  Frida Kahlo’s death

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist, well known for her vivid self-portraits and exploration of identity and pain. Kahlo's daring approach to art has made her known worldwide, with her legacy continuing to inspire millions of people.

10) 26 July - The 2024 Olympic Games took place in Paris, France

This marked a historic return for Paris as the host city, exactly a century after its last Olympic Games in 1924.

11) 1 October– 100 years since Jimmy Carter’s birth 

Jimmy Carter served as US president for the Democrats from 1977 to 1981. Carter is widely known for his advocacy of human rights, environmental conservation, and energy policy.

13) 5 November - The United States holds its presidential election

American citizens from 50 states gathered to select their next President and Vice-President. The US election is crucial both domestically and globally as it determines the future of the American nation for the next four years and its legacy beyond. Donald Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States in the November election.

14) 29 November - The 100th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini's death 

Giacomo Puccini was an influential Italian composer, renowned for his emotional works such as ‘La Bohème’ (1895), ‘Tosca’ (1899) and ‘Madama Butterfly’ (1904). A century after his death, Puccini's work continues to influence music today.

15) 8 December - The 160th anniversary of Camille Claudel 

Born in 1864, Camille Claudel was a French sculptor who gained global recognition for her work made from bronze and marble. Claudel defied expectations and left an enduring legacy in art.

1) Franz Beckenbauer

September 1945 - January 2024. Beckenbauer was a German footballer and manager, leading West Germany to victory in the 1974 World Cup as a player and coaching the national team to success in the 1990 World Cup.

2) Brian Griffin

April 1948 - January 2024. British photographer Brian Griffin, was renowned for his iconic portraits and album covers for artists like Depeche Mode and Iggy Pop.

3) Sandra Milo

March 1933 - January 2024. Italian actress and model famed for her influential role in Italian cinema during the 1960s and 70s.

4) Andreas Brehme

November 1960 - February 2024. One of Germany's most talented football players, Brehme famously scored a crucial penalty during West Germany's 1990 World Cup, later leading them to victory.

5) Philippe de Gaulle 

December 1921 - March 2024. French admiral, senator and the eldest son of Charles de Gaulle, Philippe de Gaulle has left a lasting legacy in French military history.

6) Richard Serra

November 1938 - March 2024. Serra was an American artist best known for his large scale sculptures and influence on Postminimalism.

7) Françoise Hardy

January 1944 - June 2024. French singer and symbol of pop culture, Françoise Hardy is considered a defying figure of the sixties representing forever youth.

8) Donald Sutherland

July 1935 - June 2024. A Canadian actor, known worldwide for his diverse range of roles and charming personality, spanning over six decades.

9) Shelley Duvall

July 1949 - July 2024. Duvall was a renowned American actress, starring in iconic movies such as ‘The Shining’ and ‘Popeye’.

10) Gena Rowlands

June 1930 - August 2024. American actress, who gained international recognition for her challenging roles in several films such as ‘A Woman Under the Influence’ and ‘The Notebook’.

11) Alain Delon

November 1935- August 2024. The legendary French actor and cultural icon, rose to fame in the 1960s with roles in classics such as ‘Purple Noon’ and ‘The Leopard’.

12) James Earl Jones

January 1931 - September 2024. Globally recognised American actor, earning acclaim for his iconic roles such as Darth Vader in ‘Star Wars’ and Mufasa in ‘The Lion King’.

13) Dame Maggie Smith

14) Kris Kristofferson

15) Quincy Jones

March 1933 - November 2024. Iconic composer, producer, and cultural visionary whose extraordinary influence spanned over seven decades. He is most well known for his collaborations with artists like Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin.
