An admirer of Roman Antiquity, the Emperor took as model the Trajane column raised in Rome and had his statue erected as an imperator by Antoine Chaudet (1763-1810). After the regime changes, Napoleon III (1808-1873) installed a copy of the statue of the Emperor by Augustine Dumont (1801-1884).
