Image description

‘Sinews of war at Anzac for the attack on Lone Pine and Sari Bair in final bitter struggle for The Narrows’, 1915. Photograph, World War One, Gallipoli, 1915. On 25 April 1915 soldiers of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) landed on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey. The small cove in which they landed soon became known as Anzac Cove. This photograph shows supplies and ammunition stockpiled on the beach in preparation for an attack on the Turkish positions. From a collection of 96 stereoscopic photographs entitled ‘The Great War’ including the official series.
