Established in 1978 to house the town’s permanent collection of 100 oils and 200 works on paper, mainly donated by private collectors. The collection holds some wonderful examples of major late 19th and early 20th century British artists, for example Alfred Munnings, H.S. Tuke, Laura Knight, J.W. Waterhouse and E. Coley Burne-Jones as well as a notable maritime art collection. The gallery also features works by local contemporary artists.
