With a spare bedroom in his apartment all decked out with lights and fans Lance, who asked his last name not be used, maintains several marijuana plants he is legally allowed to grow in his East Vancouver home April 26, 2002. Lance, who has tested positive to HIV, Hepatitis B & C and Epstein Barr Virus, uses the marijuana to help relive pain, nausea and lack of appetite. Lance grows the plant under very strict rules set down by the federal government and though local police are aware of it he says they are not happy. Prior to receiving permission from the govenment, Lance who lives on a fixed monthly income had to spend over half on purchasing marijuana, as he says "on the hush, hush" for his medical needs.
