Une Leçon Clinique à la Salpetrière; Jean-Martin Charcot (1825-93) French doctor and founder of modern neurology; seated opposite Charcot in white apron is Georges Gilles de la Tourette (1859-1904), after whom Charcot named Tourette's Syndrome; the patient Blanche Wittmann is supported by Joseph Babinski (1857-1932); it is now thought that Mozart and Samuel Johnson may have suffered from Tourette's Syndrome; on the left, Marguerite Bottard (1822-1906), who was Charcot's chief nurse (surveillante) holds out her arms towards the patient; Marguerite Bottard has a building at la Salpetrière named after her;
