King's Indian Orderly Officers, 1906.
Photograph by C Vandyk, London, 1906.
The posts of Kings Indian Orderly Officers were established by the Viceroy of India in 1903. Specially selected British and Indian officers and NCOs were thereafter appointed each year for the London season, from April to August, and attended the King at court, official engagements and ceremonies like Trooping the Colour.
The men depicted are Captain H Campbell, Queen's Own Corps of Guides, Cavalry (centre); Rissaldar Major Muhammad Ali Beg, 9th Hodson's Horse; Rissaldar Major Ali Gauhar Khan, 27th Light Cavalry; Subadar Dalel Khan, 25th Mountain Battery (seated left); Subadar Major Alahdin, 130th Baluchis (seated right).
From a collection of 33 photographs of the same subject 1903-1938 (mostly taken by Vandyk).
