Image description: German passport with a J stamp (undated archive picture). In his September 4, 1998 issue, the "Observer" corrects his 1954 report on Swiss refugee policy: the idea for the introduction of the infamous J-stamp in German passports in 1938 did not come from the then Swiss police chief Rothmund, but from the German side. Rothmund had opposed it. Politicians and historians in the "Beobachter" commented on the new findings that Switzerland had not invented the Jewish stamp, but had pursued an inhumane refugee policy.
