The Church of the Transfiguration (Preobrazhenie), completed in 1829 to the design of Vasily Petrovich Stasov (1769–1848), served the prestigious Preobrazhensky Regiment. It was encircled by a cast-iron fence made from Turkish cannon captured during the Russo-Turkish war of 1828. The boundary posts were formed from groups of three cannon surmounted by crowned and gilded double-headed eagles. The church contained regimental trophies.
