MILESTONES CATALOGUE - Michel Gaspoz, a boy from the mountains in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, was portrayed by the US-American photographer Peter Buckley for the book “Children of the World” in February 1956. Twelve years old Michel Gasppoz from the village of Evolene is the eponymous hero of the book for young people “Michel of Switzerland”, which was edited by the US-American writer and photographer Peter Buckley and released by the New Yorker publishing house Franklin Matts. Buckley strictly adhered to the principle of portraying young Michel exactly the way he normally lives. It was the Swiss Center for the Advancement of Transport, which pointed out to Peter Buckley the manifold possibilities in a Swiss mountain canton. Buckley, one of the USA's top photographer, illustrated the mountain scenery partly with the help of the glacier pilot Geiger in a series of splendid images, which contributed considerably to the book's success with the US-American youth.
