DESERTED IMMIGRANTS BOATS STACK UP AT A LANDFILL SITE ON FUERTEVENTURA ISLAND, 2002-04-03 (photo)

A man stands over a stack of deserted wooden boats which were abandoned by arriving immigrants in the harbours on the Spanish Island of Fuerteventura off the northwest coast of Africa. In nearby coastal towns still more of the rickety skiffs stack up like firewood but still telling tales about the people who took them to sea in search of a better life in Europe.
