A full-length portrait of the artist's second husband who stands at the edge of a pool to the left, leaning casually against the trunk of a tree to the right with his left elbow. A creeper with pink flowers winds around the base of the tree. The subject wears a black velvet jacket, waistcoat and plus fours with black stockings and shoes. He holds a hat with a white plume in his right hand which he rests against his right hip. With his left hand, he toys with a gold chain that is pinned to his waistcoat. He has striking red hair and a full beard and looks out of the picture plane towards the left. A grassy landscape with mature trees in full leaf can be seen in the background. Built service wing at Baddesley Clinton.
