A camp in Waziristan, 1920 circa. Photograph, India, North West Frontier, 1920 circa. A view of an Indian Army camp in the barren landscape of Waziristan. The vast majority of the troops engaged in the suppression of the uprising in Waziristan were Indian. Note also the camels resting in the background; the one-hump Arabian camel, or dromedary, was used by the British and Indian Armies for many years. Well adapted to the sort of barren terrain encountered in the frontier regions and able to walk for miles a day, they were vital beasts of burden.
