An Unknown Woman

Dutch School. Oil painting on panel, An Unknown Woman, by Dutch School, mid 17th century. A half-length of a woman in profile to the right, seated behind a stone ledge, on which she rests her right arm. She is dressed in layers of clothing: a brown fur stole, over a lace-trimmed white shoulder garment, over a black sleeved dress, over a white shift; and she has a black kerchief tied over her head. She wears no jewellery. There appear to be faint traces of an arch-topped termination to the picture (corresponding to, but different from, the painting of an actual arch in its pendant).
