Jun 01, 1954 -” Save our Churches” week premier hands cheques to Athletes: M.P. ' s and Olympic athletes today carried cheques from Downing Street to four London churches in need of repair. The event was arranged by the Historic Churches Trust as part of a program for” Save our Churches Week” which began yesterday. The Cheques, each for? 500 were handed to the first team by the Prime Minister, who is a trustee of the trust. The churches at which they will be received were St. Margaret Pattens (Rood Lane), St. Martin (Ludgata). All Hallows (London Wall) and St. George's (Bloomsbury). The four runners at Downing Street were Roger Bannister, Gordon P ~ rie, Chris chataway and C.W.Brasher
