AN INJURED PRO-GOVERNMENT YOUTH RECEIVES MEDICAL ATTENTION IN JAKARTA, 1998-11-10 (photo)

A young supporter of the Indonesian government, injured during clashes with anti-government protesters, receives medical treatment from a riot policeman (C) and a soldier (R) on a street outside Jakarta's parliament building November 10, as a four-day special meeting of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) took place inside the building. There were small outbreaks of violence around Jakarta on the first day of the meeting which will decide on Indonesia's election timetable and ratify new, more demoratic political laws. The top lawmaking body meets amid growing threats of violent protest from those who regard the meeting as not going far enough to put Indonesia's economy and politics in order. JIR/TAN/WS
