On 23 July 1962, a cameraman on Swiss television filmed a contribution from the European Centre for Nuclear Research in Meyrin near Geneva (CERN) from the ring of the proton synchrotron, which was watched on television for one minute in a direct broadcast in the USA. The European television companies, which are members of Eurovision, are returning the favor for an earlier direct broadcast from the United States. These direct transmissions will be broadcast across the Atlantic via Telstar satellite. After one minute it is the turn of another European television station.
