First of a series of cartoons published after the resumption of the war between France and England in May 1803, showing a squadron of English cannons on the cliff, firing on the French troops in great confusion. In the centre is Napoleon, on a white mount, losing his sabre in the confusion. This satire, with its emphasis on the ridiculous, is a response to the French propaganda images that exalt patriotic feelings. Etching in colours by James Gillray (1757-1815), published on 10 June 1803, by H.Humphrey.
